JUDITH EVELYN

Judith Evelyn- Deserves some recognition here because of her wonderful performances in a few of funniest movies on my list: "THE TINGLER", "REAR WINDOW" and "FEMALE ON THE BEACH".
"The Tingler" is another William Castle masterpiece starring Vincent Price. Evelyn plays Martha Higgins the deaf mute wife of a artsy theater owner. She was "Scared to death" as a result of a crazy experiment Vincent Price put her through.
Martha's bird-like movements and wild-eyed reaction to every little thing is hilarious! It really enhanced to cheesy quality to this B movie.
I have to say I am a fan of Miss Evelyn, she is so perfect as any pitiful soul...from this deaf and dumb woman in "The Tingler" to the alcoholic Miss Lonely Hearts from "Rear Window" and the broken hearted murder victim Eloise Crandall of "Female on the beach"- Higgins has such plain features that probably makes her look like an old lady by the time she was 30. With this permanent wretched expression on her face, just by looking at her you know that no one would ever fall in love with her!
Her performance make the audience want to see her suffer so she can bring the story to a higher climax, without her getting drunk, jilted or killed, the movie would go nowhere.
