THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN

THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN-

Is probably the best one of Don Knotts' attempts on breaking in on the big screen from the small screen. Apparently he decides to take everyone from Mayberry with him, because even the sets of this movie were recycled from "The Andy Griffith Show".

Knotts play Luther Heggs, a typesetter with dreams of being an ace reporter in the hick town of Rachael Kansas. Heggs volunteers to spend a night at the local "Murder House" to celebrates the 20th anniversary of a brutal murder that took place in the mansion. Obviously Heggs discovers the house is haunted but has no way to prove it.

After the incident Luther Heggs becomes the town hero, especially among a society of nosey women interested in the occult. Each time the group meets Luther they chant "Taro! Caro! Salamon!" since Luther become their link to contact the other world..no not the communists.

There are small jokes and sight gags throughout this movie, I love the elevator operator scene, the old ladies who shares the boarding house with Luther, they're hilarious with comments like:
"Clara...the organ sounds strange tonight..."
"What did Clara say?"
"She said...why yes it DOES"..." you know Clara..."
"They say they couldn't wash the blood off the keys of the organ"
"And they used Bon Ami!"

I know it's kind of lame but it cracks me up! I love this movie, it's simple, corny and any movie begins with an old lady screaming out the window "HELP HELP MURDER A MAN'S BEEN MURDERED!" gets 4 stars from me! Oh the soundtrack it's really quite catchy, it is by Vic Mizzy who brought us "The Munsters", "Lost in space" and various TV shows. This is great movie for those middle aged late baby boomers growing up in the late 60's through the 70's when movies like this is aired on TV all the time.
